Gomala Common questions and Answers:

Q: What is Gomala?

A: Certain parts of Laughing Waters community are under dispute and claim by government. There are about 4 potential issues that may have an impact on different plots. We have simply lumped them into one common issue that is known as Gomala issue.
1. Naala land – this is the land set aside for rain water

2. Bandidhari – this is the land set aside for passageways

3. Government land issue

4. Unconverted land issue

Q: How come I was not told at the time of purchase of property?

A: All of us were unaware of any such issues when we bought our properties, and now we are put in a situation where we have to defend and fight for our assets.

Q: How is the community dealing with the issue?

A: Since last 6+ months, there has been active group in the community doing the required research, consulting and representation activities to protect our interest. This team has following members:

  • Dr. K. B. Iyer – Vice president of LWORA, Dr. Iyer (76 years young) is a retired project director. He has been a Laughing Waters resident for 5 years.
  • Abdul Basheer – Member of LWORA MC, Mr. Basheer is an industrialist and a life-long Bangalore resident.  He has been a Laughing Waters resident for past 2 years.
  • Naveen Chimmanda – Naveen is an IT entrepreneur and an active community member of Laughing Waters. He has been active in the association activities for a long time.
  • Raghu Kasavaraju – Raghu is a Project Manager at a reputed firm. He has been a resident from 5 years and has served as Vice president in the Association .
  • Vijay Dhuler – Vijay is a technologist with background in electronics and a resident of LW. He is also a prospective owner. As a Bangalore native, Vijay has a very good access to decision makers in various agencies.

Q: What has been achieved so far and what are the remaining steps?

A: This exercise is like navigating a maze – the team has made significant progress and has kept people updated on it. Briefly, the team has been able to defend the LWORA position that a large part of the LW land is not encroaching on any known government claims. This was done through getting a legitimate survey done. However, since outside vested interests are always after us, we do not feel that all is resolved yet and efforts are continuing to achieve a lasting solution. As the situation evolves, appropriate communication will go out to the group or affected parties as applicable.

Q: Is the Gomala team looking after their own interests first?

A: Unfortunately, such impressions and rumours exist. After reading the backgrounds above and recognizing that these people have spent countless hours trying to resolve the community’s problems, if you still think so, you need to come out and clarify your stand. On the other hand, if you hear such rumours, it is your duty to share the source of this malicious misinformation as that can lead to the vested interests who are out to harm the community. The team may not be perfect, but it is the best we have got.

Q: Who is funding the operation? What are the expected expenses?

A: As can be imagined, operational expenses for such an effort are huge and the association is not in a position to fund it. The funding is through contribution from all plot owners on cash basis. The ratio of contribution was posted on Adda and is proportional to plot sizes.

The nature of expenses makes it difficult to predict and put an upper or lower limit on. However, the group has been keeping it under control.

The sad truth is that despite repeated requests, very small percentage of members have paid their share. This really ties down the ability of the group to solve the problem. If adequate funds are not available, we will either fail to solve the problem or the solution will be excruciatingly delayed.

If you have not contributed, please make arrangements to pay now – some of us will be calling you to remind and collect your dues – but you could save your time and ours by arranging for payment proactively.

While there is no intent to penalise people who do not contribute, your good sense should give you enough reason to contribute.
